Scope: Extensive renovation and new addition
Materials: cedar siding, exposed douglas fir beams, concrete flooring, integral colored stucco, custom windows and doors, custom cabinetry and stone countertops
The house is located a few blocks from Abbott Kinney in Venice, CA. The project is a very personal project for Tatiana Barhar, VERDEGO founder and her husband, architect Carlos Zubieta. The house was designed and built by the owners. During construction they lived in a renovated Airstream trailer parked in the back of the property with their young daughter.
The existing tiny bungalow was demolished to the wood framing and A double height family room and kitchen were added. Large, 20 ft walls of glass bring the southern sky and large mature trees right into the home and a 15’ custom sliding door opens up the kitchen to the outdoor garden. From the second floor mezzanine, the surrounding views give a sense of living among the trees. The materials chosen are also characteristic of the homes in Venice with smooth stucco and wood siding, playing in harmony with the neighboring buildings.
